Retaining Your Smile After Orthodontic Treatment

Retaining Your Smile After Orthodontic Treatment

The essence of orthodontic treatment is to align your teeth and enhance your smile. Smiling boosts our moods and helps our bodies release endorphins and cortisol that provide numerous benefits. Including lowering your blood pressure and making you feel happier.

At LevelUp Orthodontics, we understand that improper teeth alignment can reduce your chances of having a confident smile. We have an amazing orthodontist, Dr. Colby Gage, who has immense orthodontic experience, and can help you smile freely!

    Orthodontics Treatment Options
We have numerous orthodontic treatment options to choose from depending on your preference, and your alignment problem. They include Invisalign, braces, InBrace, and Damon Braces. Dr. Gage will consider all the possibilities, and advise you on the best treatment option based on various variables. Such as your age, teeth size, jaw imbalances, and many more. Regardless of the method, you will need a retainer after you’ve completed your treatment to maintain all the benefits, and your beautiful smile.

Benefits of Retainers After Orthodontic Treatment
Orthodontists have established that teeth are most vulnerable to returning to their previous positions the first month after treatment. We recommend wearing retainers for a few more months after treatment has finished to avoid teeth shifting. This time will give your teeth a chance to establish themselves in their new permanent positions. The timeline needed to wear a retainer will vary depending on the patient.

When braces and other orthodontic treatment options are removed, the body continues to grow, creating pressure that can move the perfectly straight teeth back to improper alignment. This is called relapsing. The retainer will maintain straight teeth when this pressure occurs in a patient’s mouth. It will also hold the teeth in place until the patient’s gum adapts to the new position.

    Keep Your Retainer Clean
Just as you clean your teeth, it is also essential to clean your retainer daily. Clean your retainer as soon as you remove it from your mouth. When it’s still wet be sure to remove debris before it dries. It would help if you also brushed out your retainer after every meal with lukewarm water. You should use a soft toothbrush and scrub gently to avoid damaging your retainer. If you notice debris that doesn’t come off, consult with us for assistance.
