If you, or your child, is wearing braces, it’s important to brush teeth thoroughly and correctly. In this blog post, our team at LevelUp Orthodontics will teach you how to brush your teeth with braces using the correct angles and techniques!
First, you need to gather the correct supplies. It’s a good idea to keep everything in a handy kit. This way you can keep up good oral hygiene wherever you are! You will need a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, and water. You can use a floss threader to make it easier. It is also a good idea to keep some orthodontic wax handy too.
Next, you need to find the correct angle to brush your teeth at. The best way to do this is to imagine that your toothbrush is a clock. For the top braces, you should hold your toothbrush at the 12 o’clock position and brush downwards. For the bottom braces, you should hold your toothbrush at the 6 o’clock position and brush upwards.
It is also important to brush your tongue when you have braces! Gently brush your tongue with your toothbrush to remove any bacteria.
Finally, rinse your mouth with water and floss between your teeth. Flossing is especially important when you have braces because food can easily get stuck in your braces.
Remember, you need to brush after you eat with braces. This includes snacking too! If you’re unable to brush right away, make sure to drink water to help wash away any food that might be hanging around in your braces and mouth.
Brushing your teeth correctly with braces takes a little bit of practice, but it is important to do it correctly to avoid cavities and other dental problems. It will also help to keep your oral health at its best during your orthodontic journey. We want to show off a beautiful and healthy smile at the end!
